FAQs

bunny looking out of the maze haven

So, what would you like to know?… our most frequently asked questions

Are the products suitable for all bunnies/furries?

The Tunnel Haven is suitable for bunnies/furries of all shapes and sizes – including giant rabbit breeds as the tunnel is very large for even the biggest of bunnies.

The Maze Haven is suitable for all bunnies/furries too though it may be more of a challenge for giants depending on their size – we’d suggest using less dividers and checking the hole sizes.

You may find that your bunnies may reshape things if they feel you’ve not set the Haven up to their liking! My dwarf lop, Dudley (pictured) used to, over time, remove the bottom section of the holes so he didn’t have to hop through! It took him a while and he loved making it his own.

The Mini Haven is more appropriate for small to medium bunnies and other small furries. The hole sizes are the same as the Maze Haven.

We’ve included detailed specification on each product page but please get in touch if you have specific questions relating to size or to provide any feedback – we’re always interested to hear what your bunnies think!

How big is the Maze Haven, Mini Haven and Tunnel Haven?

As they are versatile and modular in construction, they can be set up to fit a number of set ups. Please refer to the product pages for more information on size and with different suggestions on configurations.

How long do the products typically last?

This varies hugely depending on your bunnies. I’ve had 4 Maze Havens (in constant use) over 25 years and with many bunnies – including those that have liked to reshape sections, and others that didn’t touch it. The modular system means you can keep some spare sections not used and interchange them over time, or move things around so panels that may get weaker are replaced or moved to a different part. The high quality cardboard has been hugely researched by the manufacturer and is designed by an architect bunny lover! The Havens’ integral strength is part of the whole design. Check out the product reviews too!

Are the Havens suitable for guinea pigs, hamsters, ferrets and chinchillas?

Yes. If you’re short of room, the Mini Haven is ideal, but if this isn’t an issue they will love the luxury and multiple combinations of the Maze Haven!.

Can I combine more than one product?

Yes. The Maze Haven and Mini Haven are made to the same modular system so can be combined using two or more products.

Do the products stack higher than double storey?

We do not recommend building the Maze and Mini Havens higher than two storeys for the safety of your bunnies. Each product comes with full construction instructions – also fun for hoomins!

Can I buy replacement sections from you?

It’s likely, depending on how you configure it that you’ll have spares in reserve. The Maze comes with 6 long sections and 6 short, and the Mini with an extra section.

Won’t my bunny nibble away the cardboard?

Bunnies do like nibbling – it’s natural. What we see as wires, for example, they see as plant and grass stems. That’s why having bunnies indoors means you need to bunny proof as much for them as for your own possessions. Some bunnies nibble carpet, some wires, some skirting boards and your favourite pieces of furniture! Cardboard isn’t good if ingested in any quantity. But equally bunnies can spend a long life getting stimulated by ripping it up. The extensively researched cardboard is pretty durable yet bunnies can make it their own. Every piece of corrugated cardboard used to make the Havens uses a minor amount of water-soluble, plant-based starch glue to bond the paper layers to the corrugation. Should your rabbit extensively chew and consume a significant quantity of cardboard, remove it and make efforts to stop the behaviour if you do reintroduce – bunnies can be trained. Also, discard any cardboard playhouses that have lost their structural integrity.
The beauty of indoor bunnies is that you can observe their behaviour and manage them accordingly.  See also the recent RWAF advice on our blog.

What would you recommend as a suitable surface to sit them on?

It’s preferable to put all of the Haven products on a carpet or rug as this is better for the bunny all round. As my bunnies have always had this as the main sleeping area, I’ve used sheets, towels and blankets which made it easier to keep clean, and loaded it with hay every day to encourage eating the good stuff. The beauty is that the Havens are easy to move to enable this. It’s a morning ritual that brings out the binkies in Esther.
